"[T]hink the Catholic Church has a problem?" she said. "The physical sexual abuse of students in schools is likely more than 100 times the abuse by priests."
So, in order to better protect children, did media outlets start hounding the worse menace of the school systems, with headlines about a "Nationwide Teacher Molestation Cover-up" and by asking "Are Ed Schools Producing Pedophiles?"
No, they didn't. That treatment was reserved for the Catholic Church, while the greater problem in the schools was ignored altogether.
If a Republican President had invaded Libya and overthrown its government, then left bloody chaos, terrorism and rampant arms smuggling behind, our courageous press corps would be all over the story like a chicken on a June bug... But the latest news, that slave markets are now operating in Libya, where desperate black Africans are being bought and sold as slaves, ought to trigger some kind of response. -Walter Russell Mead

Speaking on ABC's "This Week," Cokie Roberts made a startling admission: "every female in the press corps knew" to avoid being in an elevator with Rep. John Conyers (D-MI), and has apparently known about this "for years." Conyers has been accused of multiple instances of sexual harassment and has stepped down from the House Judiciary Committee.
Despite the allegations against him, major players in the Democratic Party have defended Conyers and will not say that he should resign. Pelosi even referred to the embattled congressman as an "icon."...
"Don’t get in the elevator with him, you know, and the whole every female in the press corps knew that, right, don’t get in elevator with him," said Roberts. She continued, "Now people are saying it out loud. And I think that does make a difference."

The New York Times did not cover a controversial meeting that took place between U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch and former president Bill Clinton more than 24 hours after the news broke, a review of the Times news reports shows. Lynch confirmed to a Phoenix ABC affiliate Wednesday that she met with Clinton, whose wife Hillary Clinton is currently under investigation by federal authorities. The news was picked up throughout the day by other outlets including CNN, the Washington Post and CBS.

CHARLIE ROSE: I don’t know what Barack Obama’s worldview is. TOM BROKAW: No, I don’t, either. ROSE: I don’t know how he really sees where China is. BROKAW: We don’t know a lot about Barack Obama and the universe of his thinking about foreign policy. ROSE: I don’t really know. And do we know anything about the people who are advising him? BROKAW: Yeah, it’s an interesting question. ROSE: He is principally known through his autobiography and through very aspirational (sic) speeches. BROKAW: Two of them! I don’t know what books he’s read. ROSE: What do we know about the heroes of Barack Obama? BROKAW: There’s a lot about him we don’t know.

While covering a May Day rally in Manhattan’s Union Square on Wednesday, NBC New York reporter Ida Siegal was cornered and asked if her network planned to show the communist imagery the protesters were displaying. Hilarity ensued when Siegal immediately became defensive, denying she had seen any communist imagery and asking of the “Hammer-and-Sickle” flags: “What do they represent?”

On Friday the news broke that the FBI has been investigating top Democratic Senator Bob Menendez for having sex with underage Dominican hookers. For some reason the ABC host Martha Raddatz forgot to ask Menendez about the hooker scandal.

Union protesters called hot dog vendor “Uncle Tom” and “N*gger” but you won’t hear about it in the mainstream media. I have posted numerous times about the union violence in Lansing, including punches thrown at Steven Crowder and the tearing down of the Americans for Prosperity tent even as bystanders screamed that there were people inside. You may also have heard the story of the hot dog vendor whose equipment and supplies were deliberately destroyed by the union protesters. But unless you read conservative blogs and websites, you have not heard that the union protesters shouted racial slurs at the man, including the N-word. -William A. Jacobson

If you need another example of egregious media bias, how can it be less than 24 hours after the arrest of a U.S. Senator’s illegal alien sex offender intern there’s not a single story found on the main page of New Jersey’s largest newspaper? All that can be found is a tiny item on the main page linking to comments about the story. Is it not newsworthy enough to have a follow-up story? Then you can search for “Robert Menendez” on their main page and you get … nothing related to the story.

There was no story last week on the Afghanistan death “milestone” on ABC, NBC, the PBS NewsHour – or even on the MSNBC programs found in Nexis, including Rachel “Our Military’s In a Perilous Drift” Maddow. But the networks were all more aggressive when the 2,000 mark arrived in Iraq on October 25, 2005. The Big Three networks devoted 14 morning and evening news stories to the death toll from October 24 through the end of October, and another 24 anchor briefs or mentions. They used the number to spell “disaster for this White House.”

Every single time Mr. Holder has testified or a major development happened, NBC Nightly News ignored it. Whatever you think of Breitbart.com’s punishing vetting process, it has exposed just how little work the mainstream media did in investigating candidate Obama back in 2008. The latest find is a fascinating inversion of the birther conspiracy. Breitbart.com has discovered that in 1991 Barack Obama’s literary agent (who also represented New Kids on the Block) published a booklet that included a biography of the future President... Here’s how it describes the author’s origins: Barack Obama, the first African-American president of the Harvard Law Review, was born in Kenya and raised in Indonesia and Hawaii.
That a conservative online newspaper could have understood the significance of the archive, and actually examined its public contents, seemed too much an embarrassment for the staffs of the major newspapers and networks and magazines to bear. By being the first to report on the papers, the Free Beacon exposed the inanity and irrelevance of the mainstream media. We beat them. And they are sore losers. -Matthew Continetti

From radical advisers in the Obama White House to hacked e-mails showing questionable work by climate scientists, 2009 has seen its share of scandals. But if you only followed the mainstream media, you might have missed some of the biggest stories of the year. Here's a list of the top nine stories the mainstream media ignored in the past year.

News outlets that are focusing on the incendiary rhetoric of conservatives outside President Obama's town hall meeting Tuesday ignored the incendiary rhetoric -- and even violence -- of liberals outside an appearance by former President George W. Bush in 2002. When Bush visited Portland, Ore., for a fundraiser, protesters stalked his motorcade, assailed his limousine and stoned a car containing his advisers. Chanting "Bush is a terrorist!", the demonstrators bullied passers-by, including gay softball players and a wheelchair-bound grandfather with multiple sclerosis. One protester even brandished a sign that seemed to advocate Bush's assassination. The man held a large photo of Bush that had been doctored to show a gun barrel pressed against his temple.
