President Obama Gets No Respect

During a recent visit to Cambodia, President Barack Obama appeared to have been slighted by the country’s first lady without realizing it. Bun Rany, wife of Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, appeared to greet Obama with a dismissive gesture meant to be used in addressing servants.

It’s long been obvious that Vladimir Putin and his inner circle view Barack Obama with utter contempt. To the hard men in Moscow, who got their schooling in the KGB, our diffident, wordy Ivy League lawyer president is a weakling—almost a caricature of everything they despise about the postmodern West.

President Obama, the Energizer bunny of international humiliation, kept going and going this week.

China declined to offer him the fine red carpet stairway they typically offer to foreign heads of state upon arrival, and President Duterte of the Phillipines called him “putang ina,” which means “son of a b***h.” The president of the United States is officially being trolled by foreign heads of state because jamming a finger in the eye of the U.S. is so in vogue. This is what happens when you project weakness on the world stage. -Eddie Zipperer Go To Site

[Nov 2015]: Obama's not even a lame duck anymore. Ironic that he controls the most power on the planet. But stands before us and the world now as a mere shell of an American leader, bereft of any real influence or earned stature. He's ignored by Russia, defied by Iran. Instead of respect, he gets heads shaking.

Growing numbers of Americans, even fellow Democrats, are not just shocked by recent Obama behaviors. They are disturbed. -Andrew Malcolm Go To Site

Russian President Vladimir Putin has said he will not expel US diplomats in revenge for hacking sanctions imposed by White House officials... The shock move did not stop the ministry's spokesman from slamming the Barack Obama administration, who didn't hold back as she called them a 'group of foreign policy losers, angry and shallow-brained'... The ministry's spokesman Maria Zakharova claimed the US and American people were 'humiliated by their own President' in what she described as the Cold War-style measures against Moscow.

One Russian leader has made it very clear what the Kremlin thinks of the US in a tweet mocking their president’s masculinity. In a strange display of one upmanship, deputy prime minister Dmitry Rogozin posted a picture on his Twitter account of President Vladimir Putin petting a leopard next to one of Mr Obama holding a fluffy poodle, with the caption “we have different values and allies.”

“I love Obama, and you’ll never find a truer Democrat than me, but this whole idea of any president of the United States drawing lines saying that if any country does something, that he considers wrong, that the nation is going to war, it’s unheard of–drawing a red line. So, of course, it’s embarrassing. I wish it didn’t happen,” Rangel said.

The world is getting into the habit of making Obama look inept. The U.S. sends a delegation to Damascus to wean Syria from Iran, and Syria promptly responds by inviting Iran’s president to the country and tightening the relationship. The U.S. praises Pakistan and sends billions in aid, and Pakistan responds by being less than cooperative in dealing with the Times Square bomber. Now it’s Russia’s turn. Just hours after the Obama administration praised Russia for allegedly cooperating on sanctions against Iran — to justify pushing forward a bilateral nuclear weapons limitation agreement with Moscow — Russia eagerly responded by subverting U.S. Middle East policy.

This week, Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski accused the Obama Administration of betrayal, saying, “Our mistake was that by accepting the American offer of a [missile defense] shield we failed to take into account the political risk associated with a change of president.… We paid a high political price. We do not want to make the same mistake again. We must have a missile system as an element of our defences.” In 2009, President Obama cancelled the deal the U.S. had with Poland and the Czech Republic to build an interceptor site and radar that would provide protection of the U.S. homeland and allies from rogue ballistic missiles.

The second takeaway of the week has to do with a continued decline in admiration for the American president. Barack Obama's reputation among his fellow international players has deflated, his stature almost collapsed. In diplomatic circles, attitudes toward his leadership have been declining for some time, but this week you could hear the disappointment, and something more dangerous: the sense that he is no longer, perhaps, all that relevant. -Peggy Noonan Go To Site

But here's the problem for Obama: Just as his favorable rating and job approval have plunged during these past 39 months at home, the same is happening all across Latin America. According to a new Gallup Opinion Briefing out this morning, Obama's median job approval rating in that region was 62% right after he took office in 2009. Today, it's 47%, a drop of 15 points or 25%.

International approval of US President Barack Obama's foreign policy has dropped sharply during his term in office, a Pew Research survey suggests. Among the 21 countries surveyed, the largest drop in approval - from 57% to 27% - was seen in China, the Global Attitudes Project reveals. Most respondents in almost all countries opposed US drone strikes.

As an American often abroad, I am embarrassed by the damage you have caused to our reputation and to others’ trust in us. I find myself apologizing for what you are doing to citizens of other nations, dismissing the idea that they have rights to privacy because they are “foreign”... And as a Democrat, I worry that you are losing us the next election, handing an issue to the Republicans that should have been ours: protecting the rights of citizens against the overreach of the security state. -Jeff Jarvis Go To Site

Hundreds of enraged Pakistanis have taken to the streets across the country, burning an effigy of President Barack Obama and setting fire to US flags after 24 soldiers died in NATO air strikes...
