She explains how abortion providers get around the law by injecting a fatal quantity of digoxin, a cardiotoxic drug, into the baby’s heart before dismembering or delivering it...

“Providers who use digoxin use it for one of two reasons. There’s a group of people who just use it so they have no risk of violating the Federal Abortion Ban. Because if you induce a demise before the procedure, nobody’s going to say you did a ‘live’—whatever the federal government calls it. Partial-birth abortion.” The second reason providers use it is “because they actually think it makes the tissue softer and it makes it safer and easier to do the procedure.”

Moreover, you’ll find that a baby that has already died from a heart attack is apparently “softer” and easier to pull apart with metal instruments. Go To Site

No matter where you stand on the question of legal abortion, there are some things that no decent society should tolerate. -Jonathan S. Tobin Go To Site

Partial-Birth Abortion is a procedure in which the abortionist pulls a living baby feet-first out of the womb and into the birth canal (vagina), except for the head, which the abortionist purposely keeps lodged just inside the cervix (the opening to the womb). The abortionist punctures the base of the baby’s skull with a surgical instrument, such as a long surgical scissors or a pointed hollow metal tube called a trochar. He then inserts a catheter (tube) into the wound, and removes the baby’s brain with a powerful suction machine. This causes the skull to collapse, after which the abortionist completes the delivery of the now-dead baby. Go To Site

Committee Chairman Rep. Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) cited testimony from that Supreme Court case.

“Dr. Carhart agreed that when you pull out a piece of the fetus – let’s say an arm or a leg – and remove that, at the time just prior to the removal of the portion of the fetus, the fetus is alive,” Goodlatte said.

“Dr. Carhart has observed fetal heartbeat via ultrasound with extensive parts of the fetus removed,” Goodlatte went on. “And testified that mere dismemberment of a limb does not always cause death because he knows a physician who removed the arm of a fetus only to have the fetus go on to be born as a living child with one arm.”

“At the conclusion of a D&E abortion no intact fetus remains,” Goodlatte said. “In Dr. Carhart’s words, ‘the abortionist is left with a tray full of pieces.’”

Goodlatte also noted that Justice Anthony Kennedy, who dissented against the court’s decision to strike down the Nebraska law, had said that “the fetus, in many cases, dies just as a human adult or child would: It bleeds to death as it is torn from limb from limb.”

Traditionally, when that procedure is done which involves the collapsing of the skull, it’s done at the junction between the later second trimester and the beginning of the third trimester — that’s around 24 weeks. It is not done at this significantly later period. When inductions for delivery — that is, in the third trimester, when procedures are performed, when abortions are performed, they are usually done as inductions. That is, they look much more like a labor and delivery. And the fetus is traditionally euthanized before that procedure is initiated. Two drugs, either potassium chloride or digoxin, are used to make sure that the fetus is not living before the procedure is initiated. -Tracy Weitz, associate professor at the University of California, San Francisco
