This was not a consensual affair, or a misunderstood romance. It was a wealthy, powerful man doing what he wanted to a powerless young girl.

A Los Angeles judge rejected Roman Polanski's bid to end his long-running underage sex abuse case without the fugitive director appearing in court or being sentenced to more prison time... Polanski was charged with six felonies in 1977 after he was accused of plying a 13-year-old girl with champagne and part of a sedative pill, then raping her at actor Jack Nicholson's house. Polanski pleaded guilty to unlawful sex with a minor, but he fled Los Angeles on the eve of sentencing in 1978.

Roman Polanski faces a fresh extradition challenge after the Polish government announced Tuesday it would appeal a court decision not to force him to face U.S. courts over a 1977 child sex conviction. Zbigniew Ziobro, justice minister and prosecutor general, said his decision was because Polanski was "accused of and wanted for…a rape of a child," Polish state news agency PAP reported.

Roman Polanski raped a child. Let's just start right there, because that's the detail that tends to get neglected when we start discussing whether it was fair for the bail-jumping director to be arrested at age 76, after 32 years in "exile" (which in this case means owning multiple homes in Europe, continuing to work as a director, marrying and fathering two children, even winning an Oscar, but never -- poor baby -- being able to return to the U.S.).

“I know it wasn’t rape-rape. It was something else but I don’t believe it was rape-rape. He went to jail and and when they let him out he was like ‘You know what, this guy’s going to give me a hundred years in jail I’m not staying,’ so that’s why he left.”

"He survived alone, basically, in hiding," Brody said. "It's one of the many things I feel he's overcome, and what's wonderful about Roman is that although he's experienced some tragic things in his life, he also has this unbroken spirit."

It is a fact that Roman Polanski committed a terrible crime against a 13 year old girl who was star struck by his fame, charm and influence.
It is a fact that Polanski was facing rape charges along with five other felony charges.
It is a fact that he was arrested, charged and pled guilty to one count of Unlawful Sexual Intercourse with a minor and in a plea agreement with the DA was to be sentenced to time served.

"Don’t care re Polanski, but I hope if my daughter is ever raped it is by an older truly talented man w/a great sense of mise en scene."

In graphic testimony, Samantha Gailey described the illicit encounter with Polanski, which began with her posing naked in a Jacuzzi for him as he purportedly snapped photos for French Vogue. From there, Polanski approached her in a bedroom of Nicholson's Mulholland Drive home and, despite her demands that he "keep away," sought to kiss Gailey.

Polanski pleaded guilty to unlawful sexual intercourse in 1977 with a 13-year-old girl, later identified as Samantha Geimer, now 45. He was sent to prison for 42 days, but the judge allegedly told lawyers he intended to renege on a plea deal and give Polanski another jail term. On the day of sentencing, he fled to France.

Roman Polanski is a man who cares deeply about his art and its place in this world. What happened to him on his incredible path is filled with tragedy, and most men would have collapsed. Instead, he became a great artist and continues to make great films... Whatever you think about the so-called crime, Polanski has served his time. -Harvey Weinstein Go To Site
